Liverpool Trip

Today we went to the Tate Gallery in Liverpool. We were meant to film a Documentary about a collection of work, but because there were so many people there (FAD, BTEC first & second years) we were unable to film. Instead we were asked to go around the gallery and take photos of the things we like.

Here are some of the art work that I liked:

Richard Patterson - born 1963
Painted Minotaur  - 1996-1997
Oil on canvas

This is a minature toy figure, smeared with Multi coloured paint, it was then photographed against different backgrounds. his paintings are then copies of the resulting photographs. I really like this painting because looking at it, it almost looks like a photograph. It almost looks like the paint is smeared across the photo, which is what we did for the fine art tester. There is a variety of colours which I like.

Simrym Gill
Shifting boundaries continued.

This work comprises of 258 images of peoples living rooms, taken over an eight week period as the artist traveled across the Malaysian Penisuala. Gill knocked on randomly select houses without knowing the tenants and took pictures when inside.
I really like this piece of work because of the huge variety of images. They are simple images taken in simple surrounding without the airs and graces. This piece of work documents life, using a variety of
people and houses.

Territories in the making.

Territories in the making address's the political implications of regional conflicts and their global effects.
This Piece of work includes a variety of colours because of all the different flags. When you look closes you realize that the flags are made out of polystyrene, and that each flag has bits cut out of it. I really like the difference of looking at the piece of work as a whole and then looking at the individual flags.

These images remind me of what we did in the fine art tester. In the tester we painted voer photographs, and these images are crayon drawings over newspaper. I really like the fact that they are simple with very few details and this is added to by the fact that they aren't in colour.
