Today me and Becki decided that we wanted to get his edit done.W finished editing the rest of the acts, each taking turns of being in control. We had been given the music beds that we were told to use, however for this edit we had a problem with the outro because we don't have the audio without the music bed. We can't use the outro because the music bed isn't copy write free. More editing had to be done when we put the acts in order, to link the acts up because Dom keeps taking his shirt on and off during the act. We also had trouble with editing out the beer can. We were told not to put any shots in the edit were either of the two performers were drinking. This caused some problems. We had to get creative to be able to edit around it.
Self Evaluation.
During this project I was one of the editors. I hadn't gone to film the show so I didn't know what to expect. I threw my self into the project and was determined to get it done. Sometimes my concentration lacked because of how many edits there were, but I always managed to get my concentration back. Me and Becki worked as a team each taking turns being in control and giving ideas to help the other. This project was one of the harder post-productions that I have worked on. A lot of creative editing had to be done because of the camera shakes and the lighting. We were also told that some things had to be cut out and we had to work around things so that the edits flowed. I think that I did good for the amount of edits that had to be done and for the content that we had to edit. I had to work round things and changed original plans along the way so that the footage flowed and the client was happy. I could have improved by taking control more. When my concentration lacked I took more of a back seat. This is something that I have to work on. However I think that this project had helped me improve on this.

Long Edit
Today was the start of the long edit for the Freak show. This was going to be the edit that was looked over by the act to see where they were going wrong. Yesterday (Monday) Becki came in to edit the intro. Today we edited the Envy (Eye Hooks) the Sloth act (Bed of Nails) the Lust act (Burlesque Dancers) and half of the Purgatory Act (Needles). We didn't re edit the Lust act we just used what we had done for the previous edit. We still added a few extra its to it so that it would fit within the time frame. We wanted each act to be no longer than 3 minutes long.

UCAS Fair
Today was the UCAS fair that everyone from the foundation course attended. I was really looking forward to getting to talk to people from different university's to see if there were any more choices for me other than the ones I had already made. However when we got there most of the university stalls I went to look at had no one representing their media courses. Some people said this was because it was the design your future UCAS fair. Most of the media tutors had gone to the other fair. Today hasn't helped me make any more choices but it has made me determined to have a proper look around and choose the course that is right for me.

Last Day Of Edit For The Tate
This morning we had a group meeting with Jamie. We were told that on Wednesdays for the next couple of weeks we would be working with Graham. These lesson are mainly aimed at those going to Tanzania in February and those that want to progress onto the degree course next year, but the lessons are open to everyone. We were then told a bit of information about the degree course and asked if we are thinking about progressing onto it. I am going to apply for the new degree course in film making at Blackburn College, but I'm also going to apply for other course.
Things for the Child Action work experience have changed because of the meeting that I attended on Tuesday because no one but students from Blackburn College turned up. We are now going to have the interviewees come into college and do the interviews in the TV studio. We are going to set the studio up ourselves and Matt is going to help organise everything as he is being brought into the email link. Once the interviews have been done we are going to organise a time to go and get the cutaways that will be needed for the interviews.
Today we wanted to get the Tate footage all edited. The interview had been edited down to five minutes. This was the shortest time we could get it down to because everything that was in it was essential to the interview. The only problem we had was there wasn't enough shots, so that we can just use a shot once. A couple of shots we had to use twice, but watching the interview back this actually worked because the shots weren't close together. Sammie had to leave college early so I waited for Brian to come and look at the footage and give his opinion. Brian said that we did a really good job. There wasn't much that he said we could possibly change. I swapped two cutaway shots around so that there are two close-ups of a picture then you see the fully picture at the end. Brian also took a bit of the interview out, but this made the interview better. It did't take any of the information out, it just made the interview make more sense. Brian also showed me a trick. If you here a tiny hiss or something similar in the audio you can add 'constant gain' and this will either reduce the hiss so you can hardly hear it or it will completely take it away.
At the end of the interview I added some audio from the museum just to break it up. The artist talks throughout the interview and there are no gaps so adding the audio from the gallery will stop the documentary from ending abruptly.
These shots below are the shots some of the shots that I wanted to get in the exhibition downstairs, but I was unable to get because I was working upstairs.

Darren Hayman Lecture
This Morning we had another guest lecturer, Darren Hayman. Here are some notes from the lecture;
Quotes
"Being self sufficient with your own creativity is success"
"The idea of writers block and creative blank is scary"
"Be unafraid to let your work be tampered with" - Lesson from art college
"There not going to say yes to the person knocking on the door the loudest, you have to wave but not too hard"
"We want to own what we do"
"We want creative freedom"
Darren Hayman shown us some of the films that he has made

In the afternoon me and Sammie went to edit the Tate footage again. Today we concentrated on editing the interview, which is the part that is going to take the most time. There were some arguments because we both had different but in the end we managed to agree and compromise on what we both wanted.
- He likes rules
- Has a knack for writing songs and everything around that serves it
- Works from home
- He gets jealous of artists that are bigger and better
- Would describe himself as unsuccessful
- It's useful for us to know that money changes our art in some way - but hes not saying its selling out - it will aid us better.

Child Action & Editing The Tate Documentary
This morning six of us went up to the Young Carers building on Preston New Road. We had to go there to talk to Karen who is the leader of the Young Carers Project and to do a recce of the building. When we got there me and Sammie sat down with Karen because the other 4 people that went were running late. We were a little unsure of why we were talking to Karen but I decided to talk to her about what she would want in the short film about Young Carers.
Here are her ideas;
Me and Sammie where told today that we could edit one of the documentaries that we went and filmed at Tate Liverpool last week. We could edit the artists documentary whilst Brian edited the curators documentary. This meant that we got to edit the interview as well as putting the cutaways in place. Today we listened to the interview to see where we could cut down the interview. We had to cut down from twenty minutes to about five minutes. We were told to keep all the important bits in and take out the questions. We had to make it flow without the questions and keep anything that sounded 'intellectual' in it. Once we looked at all the footage we edited the questions out. Today we didn't get much of the editing done because we had to listen to the entire interview and then cut the questions out. We only had a couple of hours to do this as we had the Child Action meeting in the morning.
Here are her ideas;
- How to identify a young carer - 1 minute
- the impact - emotional rather than physical
- What the young carers project offers - 1 minute
- Maybe have an older person who was a young carer who didn't have the support, then instead of vocal use images of how it is now
We were told that we were meant to meet the degree students who will be working with us and also someone from Child Action North West. No one but us six turned up to the meeting. We did a recce using one of colleges HD camera but I also took some pictures. There used to be multiple rooms that we could film in but they needed the space so they have turned some of the rooms into offices. This meant there wasn't much to film, only the front room, the outside, the hallway and the kitchen. It didn't need six of us to go there two would have been enough.

Editing The Tate Footage
Me and Sammie decided to go into college today to get a head start on the editing of the Tate footage that we filmed yesterday. We had a conversation with Brian and he said that he is going to edit the interviews and we can add everything else into the edited version of the interviews. He didn't have time to do it today but we decided that we would look through the cutaways and put them into some semblance of order. When we looked at the footage I was a little disappointed because 3/4 of the footage that my group got upstairs was unusable because of reflections and being unstable. There was also a lot of pans on images that didn't need pans. This has shown that I didn't do a good job of organizing the group upstairs. I was also a little angry because someone in this group sometimes stood behind me and kept saying things like zoom in and focus, make sure the aperture is right and watch out there is a reflection there and they obviously didn't do this for some of their shots.

Tate Visit
Today I got asked to go to Tate Liverpool with some other students and film a documentary at the press opening of a new show. This Show was;
Upstairs Exhibition
Tracing the Century: Drawing as a Catalyst for Change
Matt Saunders: Century Rolls
Press Pass
When we got there we were told that there were two floors, on the ground floor there was Matt Saunders: Century Rolls exhibition that was linked with the exhibition on the top floor which is Tracing the Century: Drawing as a Catalyst for Change. I went round the exhibition and took some photos with my phone of some shots that I thought that we should get. The shots would be much tighter and framed better if we use them, but these are just Ideas.
Downstairs Exhibition
The Movie Saunders Made
Different Angle For The Movie
A Two Shot At A Angle - Shows two pieces of Saunders Work
Another Two Shot - This Time Straight on
Close Ups of Different Pieces Of Work
Shows Multiple Pieces Of Work And There Is Different Lighting In Different Parts Of The Screen
A Side Shot showing Four Pieces Of His Work
Upstairs Exhibition
The Title Of The Upstairs Exhibition
This is going to be a pan down shot of this piece of work. The shot is going to be tighter - this will show the detail
This shot shows the statue and the pieces of work in the background.
This is a tighter shot of the previous shot
This is a different angle of the previous two shots.
Shows two pieces of the same collection
Shows part of a room as well as wide shots of some of the work
Once we looked round we had a meeting so that we could talk about how the rest of the day would go. Because the artist was shy we were asked if we would split up so that only the people needed would be in the room filming the interview with the artist. I was asked to go to the exhibit upstairs and organise everyone up stairs to get he shots that we needed. The upstairs exhibit is pretty big because there are two rooms to it. There were four art students that came with us today, two of them wanted to get some of the shots. They asked me if I could show them what to do. I took them round and showed them the sort of stuff that I would film and explained about angle, reflections and light. I worked with them to get the shot that they wanted. I had to show them how to work the camera, this meant showing them how to zoom, focus, move the camera and get the iris correct. They were both unsure especially when it came to the Iris and they didn't really understand about the zebra stripes so they asked me if I would do that part for them. Even after they got the shot and I told them that they had gotten good shots they still didn't believe me. Before we were leaving I was asked to go back in one of the top floor rooms, with another student to get some more shots of two pieces of work to make sure that we had enough shots of two pieces of the work because they were the works that the curator specifically talked about. This was difficult because someone else was doing an interview with the curator. This meant that we had to be silent and work around them as they were under taking the interview near these pieces of work.
Overall it was a good day, I got to organise what went on upstairs and also help students who had necer handled the camera before and knew nothing about filming. I did really well because I had never taught anyone before, the people I had worked with previously know nearly everything where as these students were art students and hadn't done anything similar before.

Cedar Lewisohn Lecture
Today we had a guest lecturer in to talk to us. Today's Lecturer was Cedar Lewisohn who is a curator and has wrote books about Graffiti art. Cedar talked about his work. This wasn't my thing and I sometimes found myself not paying attention so when I did pay attention I got a little confused, however I did manage to get some notes about his work and some quotes.
Quotes
- Rings Of Saturn - 2005 - Was the first exhibit he worked on
- Dali & Film - Major Exhibition - About Salvador Dali and incorporation into film - Done at the same time as Rings Of Saturn.
- The Irresistible Force - Small Scale - Tate Modern - 2006 - About the economy and finance. Cedar made a magazine with all his ideas in it, to give away so that the other two people working on the project could have the budget.
- Live Events - He invites people from outside the art world to come and speak example Harry Hill
- As part of a project he had to offer a project - Street Art Boom - He made a film for channel four to go with the book.
- Home made fanzines - Good practice for the publications he made
- Diagenes At Late At Tate - 2010

Freak Show Edit
Today we had a group tutorial in the morning about out personal statements which we have to write for our UCAS forms. We were given some pointers on how to write them;
- Add your achievements and ambitions
- Chance to have a voice
- Stand out
- What do you do (Outside the classroom)
- Easy to read
- Get to the point quickly
- Enthusiasm
- Reveal your niche
- Quote favourite authors
- Back up statements with examples
- Discuss current studies
- Check Spelling and grammar
- No lists
In the afternoon I went back to editing the freak show with Becki. Today we decided that there are going to be seven edits of the Seven Deadly Sins Show.
- Website Promo - 7 Deadly Sins
- Burlesque Promo
- Johnny Strange - 30 Second Promo
- El Lurchio - 30 Second Promo
- Burlesque - 30 Second Promo
- Short Full Freakshow - Just the Acts
- Long edit of the entire show
We worked on the burlesque act.We still only had the two cameras because the french guy still hadn't given Dom the footage for us to use. This meant that we had the wide shot and the close-up shots. At some points we found it difficult because whoever was on the close-up camera kept on zooming into one of the burlesque dancers. We found a way around this by using the wide shot then the close-up to show different parts of the act. By the end of the day we had managed to edit the burlesque act, the only thing that needed to be done was to find the music. As before it is difficult to edit because of the change in light because it was all filmed in a nightclub so there was no control over the lighting. This means that sometimes the footage can not be used and we have to find a way around it.

Dolphinholme Videos
Dolphinholme: Blackburn College 2012 from Becki Gill on Vimeo.
Dolphinholme: A Goat Cheese Farm from Becki Gill on Vimeo.
Dolphinholme: The Confessions from Becki Gill on Vimeo.
These are the final three documentaries that we filmed at Dolphinholme in September. During the making of these videos I was one of the main camera operators and also the sound person.
Self evaluation
What did I do?
For these videos I did a lot of the camera work and I also did the sound for the confessions and for the interviews.
How well did I do it?
Before we went to Dolphinholme the last piece of filming I did was before the summer. I was surprised by how motivated I was to get back into the swing of things and really get some filming done.I seem to be more motivated to do more work than when I was on the BTEC. I was also surprised by how much I worked and that I just got stuck in with things, where last year I would have took a step back and only done things when someone else wasn't. Instead I took control of what I wanted to do and made sure that I was heard. This trip taught me how to work under difficult situations as 80% of the time it was raining, but I knew that the work had to be done because there wouldn't be another opportunity. I definitely think that my camera skills have improved as this year I seem to be thinking of better camera angles even though I think camera is one of my weakest points. This trip gave me the chance to do more camera work as its on the spot. There isn't much time to think, the shot could be gone in the next second. This trip had shown me how motivated I can be to get work done and how much work I can get done in a short space of time. It has also shown me that I can think on the spot were normally I would just freeze up, the interview with the owners son wasn't planned, it only became an idea when me and Becki went to film the scanning of the goats.
How can I improve?
No matter what you do there is always improvement for work. I would loved to have been apart of this project from the beginning to the end. instead for the first couple of hours, when everything was being planned I was working on my photography At the time we went to Dolphinholme I was still confused about what I wanted to do so I was attempting two pathways. Even though me thinking on the spot has improved I still need to work on it.
Research For My Drama
I've decided that for my drama I want to do something surrounding bullying. Bullying is a major issue in today's society. My inspiration has come from my own experience of school. But the main inspiration has come from my cousins who are currently going through bullying. I've looked online at some anti-bullying films. Each of these videos are different. Non of the are light hearted, they are all made the way they are to get a reaction out of people.
After looking at these videos I need to think about the way I want to make this video and what I want in it. There are many possibilities.

Final Museum Project Piece

Targets
Hopefully by Tuesday I will have these targets completed:
- Research for my drama
- More Photos for my museum project edited
Vaudeville Freak Show Editing
Today Dominic came into college to drop the other footage off that we didn't have. He only had the footage from his camera and not the footage from the other two cameras. He asked us if we could get the promotional video done by the end of the day so that he could show it to a client that wants to see the footage before they book him. He sat with us all day and gave his ideas on what he wanted us to do. It felt really weird sat with 'the client' and them telling us what they want but also respecting our ideas. We got the promo video finished. He asked us to do a full length video from the footage that showcases the entire Seven Deadly Sins Show and also just do a video of the Burlesque act because the burlesque dancers wanted a video of just their act. He is going to leave us to do what we want with these videos as long as we make sure that he has a copy of them. Some shots we can't use because of the lighting, the show was filmed in a nightclub this meant there was no control over the lighting. Sometimes the footage is over exposed and this makes the footage unusable.

Vaudeville Freak Show
When I got involved in the editing of the Vaudeville Freak Show I decided to do some research on it.
This is the promotional video for The Seven Deadly Sins Sideshow, that Becki, Aaron, Jordan and Lewis went to film at the Krazy House. This video only promotes the two main acts; Sickboy/Johnny Strange and El Lurchio. But there were also two Burlesque dancers in the show.
